🌾 Letter from the Bardenas – By Anabel
Hello, I’m Anabel, daughter of farmers from Arguedas, and together with Rubén – my life partner, Valtierrano and in love with the Bardenas – we have been betting on this place for more than 20 years. (next year 25 years)
This website, www.lasbardenas.com, was born in 2001, long before Instagram, Booking or signposted route maps existed. It was Rubén who created it, with his own hands, because he felt that the Bardenas were a treasure that deserved to be told to the world with respect and truth.
At that time there were no tourists, no posters, no promotional videos. There was only land, wind, silence… and a huge passion for preserving and sharing this place. We were the first to put information about the Bardenas on the Internet.
Since then, this website has been a meeting point for thousands of travellers looking for something authentic. And also the beginning of a personal adventure that led us to rehabilitate the first caves of Valtierra (in 2002 and 2004), when no one was talking about charming rural accommodations yet.
Later, we began to manage the municipal caves of the town hall, and created other projects with great care: La Casica Bardenera, perfect for families; the Hostal Oasis de Bardenas, with pool and garden to rest after a day in nature; and a small cave suite ideal for romantic getaways.
We have built all this with our hands, little by little, with a lot of effort and all the love we feel for this land. We are not a hotel chain. We don’t come from outside. We live here, we work here and we take care of this every day as part of our lives.
And if you also like the garden, we tell you a secret that not everyone knows: Rubén is one of the best giant pumpkin growers in the world. It has achieved several records in Spain, including the largest pumpkin in the country, which weighed no less than 1,157 kg.
So if you are passionate about plants, cultivation or just want to chat about garden and giant pumpkins, this is the perfect place to come. And if you have a vegetable garden at home, Rubén will be happy to give you giant pumpkin seeds so that you can also try your luck.
